Since the reign of Queen Victoria, members of Britain’s royal
family have often been transported around the country in their own
regal train.
The current royal train was introduced in
1977 for the Queen's Silver Jubilee. It originally cost £1.9
million ($2.5m) a year to run – that’s equivalent to around £12
million ($15.6m) today. However, its current running costs have
been reduced considerably to around £800,000 ($1m) a year as of
2017.
