When Mazda introduced the current-generation MX-5 Miata
for 2016, it instantly became the quickest Miata ever. At the
time, it wasn't the most powerful MX-5 Mazda had ever sold, but it
was extremely lightweight. It remains feathery for 2019 while
adopting a host of engine revisions that bump the 2.0-liter
engine's peak horsepower from 155 to 181, while torque rises by 3
lb-ft to 151. The Miata's zero-to-60-mph time, as a result,
shrinks by 0.1 second, to 5.7 seconds in a Miata equipped with the
six-speed manual transmission.
