The fourth generation
Continental was a marked departure from the excessive styling of
the 1950s, and is arguably the most iconic Lincoln ever made.
Simple and clean, the design evoked solidity and authority. The
famous suicide doors were a practical choice; in mockups,
engineers had problems exiting the rear seat without hitting their
feet on the door. The ‘61 Lincoln was the first car made in
America to be sold with a two-year, 24,000-mile bumper-to-bumper
warranty.
