How’s this for an oddity? It’s a
1956 Clipper Custom. For one year only Clipper ceased being a
Packard and became a marque in its own right. This was a conscious
decision to prevent the entry-level car from damaging Packard’s
image as a luxury car brand.
But the plug was pulled at
the end of the year when Packard’s Detroit factory closed. Only
18,482 Clippers were sold, 8708 being four-door Customs like this.
