Lexus introduced its new,
fifth-generation 2018 LS sedan at the Detroit auto show on Monday.
The LS rides on a new platform it shares with the LC 500 sports
car, and it's longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model.
The LS dropped 200 pounds through the use of high-strength
steel and aluminum, as well as its new twin-turbocharged V6. The
center of gravity is lower; Lexus says it’ll be more rigid, too.
The multilink suspension gets double ball joints on the upper and
lower control arms that Lexus claims are more sensitive to even
small movements of the steering wheel. Aluminum is also used here
to reduce unsprung weight.
